Thursday's CV Review Session
Here is Thursday's TikTok CV Review session (3rd October, 10pm). It was a real CV marathon. I think I reviewed about 100+ CVs across the 3-hour session.
To begin with, I started doing "2-minute-plus" reviews where I'd set a timer and try and give some succinct feedback.. and invariably I'd talk for longer.
But I could feel the room getting a bit frustrated as I was spending so much time on each CV. Someone said something like:
Is it worth me even sending a CV? How long is the queue?
It's a difficult balance here as I want to try and give everyone some good quality feedback - but also avoid mounting frustration of everyone waiting to see if I'll reach their profile.
So I took a different approach last night after maybe 4-5 CVs. I did a live poll asking this question:
Is it better to review everyone's CV, but super-briefly? Or is it better to review some CVs with a little bit of depth?
The overwhelming response was "do everyone, but super-brief" - so that's what I did.
It was somewhat freeing to be able to flip up a CV, give one or two pointers and then move swiftly on. I still felt a bit strange though. It didn't feel right. But ... we did get through 100+ CVs and I was able to give individual personalised feedback (albeit very brief!) to everyone.
Occasionally I would find a point that I wanted to highlight - and spent more time on that - but I think because we were banging through CVs at quite a rate, that worked too.
I've had some requests for a group workshop where I can go into depth on the topic of CVs and also review each person's CV during the workshop. The request was for it to be private and limited in number. I'm working on that at the moment. Of course, you can also book me for a 30-minute 1:1 but that's quite a premium.
As for the YouTube posts... I'm still not sold on the concept of publishing these huge long sessions so I really do welcome your feedback on whether I should be bothering.
I think it's worthwhile experimenting though - and your feedback is helping me keep an open mind, so thank you. Let's see how things go.
Update: I've taken the video down whilst I edit to make sure there are no contact details displayed.
